For 2021, my only business resolution was to create a monthly folly.
So many balls have been up in the air since we relocated to Spain, and for the new year it was important to me to not put an incredible amount of pressure on the business. 2021 is for play, discovery, and for wandering creatively.
The definition of Folly is 'a lack of good sense; foolishness' and these monthly creations have been just that: fun whimsies.
I am so excited to share eight 9 x 12 inch Floral Collage Works with you. They are loosely based off of our time here in Spain working for Aleia Roses. Because of that, each composition has a single red rose incorporated into the piece. These eight compositions will release on The Campbell Collective on Thursday, February 4th at 8:30am EST. These collages are a little different from other collage pieces I have done in the past because they are larger. I also used a wet on wet watercolor technique to create the vases for each composition. And in every piece there are torn and cut paint palettes used to create the flowers as well as a few sketched flowers...
I am very excited to share this group of paintings that will be arriving to Bennett's Frames and Art Gallery in Greenville, South Carolina very soon! To create this series, I took old paint palettes and white washed them for the large paper you see in the background. I like how the paint reads through the white and slightly peeks out from underneath the whitewash. Also, for me texture adds such dimension to the composition. I then took other old paint palettes and cut and tore them up to create the flower arrangements. Some of the dried paint naturally was in an organic floral shape, so this process works well for me.
